On this debut album from Kentucky based Southern rockers Black Stone Cherry you can hear influences like Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Black Sabbath, but also a heavy side - more in the vein of Black Label Society.
The track Lonely Train, with its thumping drum beats and jagged guitar solo, is appealing. Another standout on the album is Shapes of Things, a cover of the Yardbirds' chestnut.
Drummer and percussionist John Fred Young, who also delivers backing vocals, is the son of Kentucky Headhunters frontman Richard Young. His uncle is Kentucky Headhunters drummer Fred Young. No wonder John Fred plays with great chops and neat fills!
Just like bands such as Nickelback and Godsmack, Black Stone Cherry seem to have found their own distinct sound, so we woudln't be surprised when these boys enter the charts and are rotated on radio stations and music channels on tv.
