Formed in Los Angeles in 1971, The Eagles are one of the top selling bands of all time. 'Hotel California' was their fifth album and the first to feature guitarist Joe Walsh as a permanent band member. He joined the band after founder-member Bernie Leadon left to pursue a solo career. The addition of Walsh gave the band a more hard edged sound that was very different to their earlier, but hugely successful, soft country rock sound.
"Hotel California" was released in December 1976 and spent 63 weeks on the UK album chart where it peaked at No. 2. Over in America, it spent 107 weeks on the album chart and reached No. 1.
