Although Shirma Rouse and Kim Hoorweg are completely different singers, they still have a lot in common. Rouse, a sturdy Antillean woman who grew up on sunny St. Eustatius, was inspired by Aretha Franklin and Bob Marley, among others, while the Hollandse Hoorweg listened to Jaap Valkhoff, Yves Montand, Johnny Cash and Johnny Hartman. All these roots plus two of their own compositions can be found on Dedicated To You. It is immediately noticeable that both ladies are not inferior to each other and are both in the same range, which makes it often difficult to hear who is speaking. The light, cheerful accompaniment of pianist Edwin Hoorweg, bassist Boudewijn Lucas and percussionist Martin Verdonk makes Dedicated To You a sunny album that, because of the pleasure with which it was made, immediately creates a good mood.
