Kirk Covington is recognized as one of the most versatile and dynamic drummers in the world. He is the "Wild Man From Texas" that jazz fusion audiences all over the world are talking about. Covington is also an accomplished vocalist and keyboardist, which keeps him busy as an eclectic chameleon of talent. His energy is infinite and his crowd pleasing personality and vocal ability have been a driving force in the success of the world renowned jazz fusion group Tribal Tech. Covington formed a new group, CPT Kirk, in 2008. With a rotating roster of band members, CPT Kirk has produced two previous albums, White Album and Black Album. Covington is known for his funky, jazz interpretations, and his newest CD, “CPT Kirk’s Christmas”, takes well-loved, holiday chestnuts and, while maintaining the original spirit of the music, turns them into hip, swinging jazz tunes. The CD features Covington playing keys and singing as well as displaying his signature drumming style. Covington lives in Austin, TX, and is joined by some of top musicians from the area, including vocalist and touring artist Tara Williamson; John Fremgen, bassist, a professor at the University of Texas who has performed with many jazz luminaries; Brazilian-born guitarist Gabriel Santiago, who won the 2010 ASCAP Young Jazz Composer Award; the technically brilliant guitarist Carter Arrington; and first-call guitarist Glenn Rexach, a mainstay on the Austin music scene.
