Flugelhornist and composer DMITRI MATHENY has been named "Best New Artist" in the JazzIz Readers Poll and "Talent Deserving Wider Recognition" in the Down Beat International Critics Poll. Matheny is an honors graduate of the Berklee College of Music in Boston, and was privately mentored for 10 years by the legendary flugelhorn master Art Farmer.
Matheny now performs over 100 concerts internationally on tour each year from his home base in the San Francisco Bay Area. He has released 4 critically-acclaimed CDs: "Red Reflections" (1996), "Penumbra: The Moon Sessions" (1997), "Starlight Cafe" (1998), and "Santa's Got a Brand New Bag" (1999).
Celebrated for his warm romantic tone, soaring lyricism and masterfultechnique, Matheny is a rising star whose sound has been described as "so cool it'll run a shiver through your martini."
