In December 2000 Steve Lukather (guitar), Simon Phillips (drums), Jeff Babko (keyboards) and Melvin Davis (bass) decided to start a fusion jam band called Doves of Fire. Occasionally they play some striking songs from the most leading fusion bands of the seventies: Mahavishnu Orchestra, Billy Cobham and Jeff Beck.
In 2001 Doves of Fire did four gigs, the first and the second in the Hollywood Baked Potato (January 6th, February 24th), the third one as a farewell gig for the closing New Baked Potato (April 28th) and the fourth one in the Key Club, West Hollywood (September 22nd).
In February 2002 Doves of Fire played 2 x 12 gigs in several Blue Note clubs in Japan. Simon Phillips recorded all the Doves of Fire shows in Japan for a live CD.
In this special Doves of Fire section you can find some information about the source albums and the soundclips recorded during the Doves of Fire gigs (one evening, two sets) on January 6th 2001 at the Hollywood Baked Potato.
