Officially formed in August 2003 by Keith Davidson Keough, KD Drums are a small company based in Stockport in the North West of England.
Specialising in carpentry and drumming from an early age. Keith bought his first custom drum kit at the age of 17. Since then he has been specialising in repairing, restoring and building drums. Working in carpentry until 2001 he then moved to Manchester and worked in Moolah Rouge studios where many drummers would come to have their drums repaired. As word spread about Keith\'s repair work and custom drums he felt it was time to brand his products.
KD Drums was born.
Moving from snare drums to full kits Keith would attend as many drum shows as possible trying to spread the word further about his drums. By this time Keith was producing drums made from ply and solid exotic woods. In 2004 he was approached by Pete Salisbury drummer from The Verve saying he was opening a drum store in Stockport called Drummin www.drummin.co.uk where Keith started working part time in the store to introduce him to more drummers.
After attending more shows his drums started to get good reviews from forums and magazines, at this time Pete Salisbury was also on tour with Richard Ashcroft which really helped to promote KD Drums and it was now starting to become hard to keep up with lead times. Luck would have it that he met another cabinet maker called Mark Coulson while working in Drummin who was starting to learn the drums. Mark was very experienced in wood working and very keen to learn all aspects about drums. They began to work together designing and building drums and have worked together ever since. Together Keith and Mark designed the KD rudiment and practice pads along with the K-28 drums which have become their best selling snares and kits to date. In April 05 the BBC 2 program Flog It got in touch wanting to do a short story about the company. This was a very interesting. They filmed us in the shop and workshop showing how, in a “Blue Peter style way” ply drums were made. This gave us some very interesting feedback when it was aired and introduced us to many other customers and suppliers.
Soon after this Richard Ashcroft recorded his platinum selling album “Keys to the World” which featured KD Drums. Richard then had a world tour which seen KD Drums featured on Jools Holland, Jonathan Ross, Top of the Pops, CD UK, Pop World and most of the coverage from the UK festivals.
In September 07 KD Drums thought it was time to expand. A good friend of Keith’s, Tim Boyle then became a partner of the business.
