During the mid-70's through the 80's Tom Moglovkin toured and recorded with numerous acts including Model Citizen, Artist, Elijah Starr, and as an independent drummer. Although he enjoyed a career loaded with printed superlatives, he lost 2 different record deals within 3 years "due to matters completely out of my control." At the same time, Tom learned that an entire library of self generated drum samples had been "borrowed" by a major producer and used, without permission from or credit to Tom, on several tracks (some #1 on their respective Billboard Charts).
At that point something in his head began to whisper that it might be a good idea to consider something as a back-up... the dreaded day gig. "It was tough to even think about as I had never done anything in my life other than play music and couldn't imagine myself as anything but a drummer. Losing the deals was bad enough, but when I discovered that I couldn't really do anything about the theft of my work (samples where not protected by copyright then), I sort of went off on a tangent." Tangent indeed.
Tom Moglovkin returned to complete an undergraduate degree (which had long before abandoned for a music career), entered USC Law School, became a licensed California attorney and rose through the ranks of Twentieth Century Fox where he is now Senior Vice President, Theatrical Business Affairs (where his office leaves no doubt that he is a drummer).
However, even though his "day gig" is a demanding and time consuming job, Tom Moglovkin remains incredibly active as a performing and recording drummer in Los Angeles - either with the fusion oriented MoMo Rhythm Section (partnered with bassist Steve Monas) or with acts as diverse as Homeless Dog (straight ahead rock ) to Whiskey For Breakfast (traditional Irish band... with an edge). As Tom puts it "I am and always will see myself as a drummer...just with a day gig" and with a grin he adds "For now!"
