Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Sam Fogarino started to play drums at the age of 13 but his playing came together at the age of 21. Sam has a long list of influences that have effected his playing throughout the years.
"I'm always inspired by the music of a band first and then the individual players - The Beatles (Ringo Starr), Stones (Charlie Watts), Led Zeppelin (John Bonham), The Clash (Topper Headon), The Pretenders (Martin Chambers), Pixies (David Lovering), Ministry (Bill Rieflin), the guitar de-construction of Thurston More and Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth.
Most recently, I have been in awe of a fine drummer by the name of Simone Pace of Blonde Redhead. Interpol has been touring with Blonde Redhead across the states. Seeing Simone live, in action, has given me the chance to realize that he does not just come up with good drum parts for pop songs. He composes near perfect rhythmical structures that become interchangeable with the swirling cinematic melodies of their music."
Sam Fogarino started playing with Interpol in 2000. He met Interpol guitar player, Daniel Kessler, shortly after moving to NYC. Previously he just played the NYC rock scene for three years.
