Robert Kogut has been a long time staffer of the CT. Hurricanes beginning his career with the corps in 1985 as a snare drummer, moving to the pit in 1987 and on staff in 1988. Bob has been an intrical part of the staff over the years, serving as Head Front Ensemble Instructor, Front Ensemble Arranger, Percussion Coordinator and Show Coordinator. Bob Kogut was the DCA Individual Mallet Champion, duet Champion, and small ensemble Champion in 1989, 1990 and 1991.
As Director of bands at Naugatuck HS, Bob Kogut has developed a strong winter percussion program. Naugatuck’s winter ensemble is undefeated in EMBA and MAC championship competition since 1998 and was a WGI semi-finalist in 2003 and Finalist in 2005 placing 4th. Bob Kogut has taught many high school programs over the years doing both the percussion and visual programs. Among these schools are East Lyme HS, Fitch HS and Central Connecticut State University, all being successful and noteworthy programs.
As a Connecticut educator, Bob Kogut is the head percussion adjudicator for the Connecticut Regional and All-State Festivals. He has been actively involved in creating adjudication sheets for regional, all-state, EMBA outdoor and indoor percussion activities and MAC indoor activities.
Bob Kogut continues to present workshops for adjudicators on building percussion programs, mallet selection, purchasing instruments and music selection for school programs throughout Connecticut. Naugatuck’s Percussion Ensemble has performed three times at the Connecticut Music Educators National Conference.
Bob Kogut has a Masters Degree in Education from Western Connecticut State University. He studied percussion under Mr. David Smith.
