London born Phil Martini played drums in Tokyo Dragons until he joined The Quireboys in November 2008, replaicing previous drummer Pip Mailing. Phil Martini started drumming at age ten, naming Big band jazz drummer Buddy Rich as inspiration. Martini received drum lessons from Colin Wilkinson (Private tutor).
Phil Martini has toured with The Datsuns, Supersuckers and Status Quo amongst others, but always played for Tokyo Dragons. He joined the band in 2000. Phil previously played with The Hairnets, and Pavement among others.
One of the important things he has learned is "Good physical preparation allows you drum longer and more effectively."
