Paul van Limbeek plays drums and percussion in Nederweert based progressive rock band Nem-Q.
Paul van Limbeek's biography, in hiw own words:
I’ve been messing around with drums ever since I can remember. I've always been interested in listening and making music from a very young age.
I joined a local brass-band, where I learned how to play the snare drum, some percussion instruments and learnt the basics of sight-reading. After 5 months of playing in the brass band, my parents gave me a brand new drum set. This was the moment at which I started taking drum lessons from professional musicians at a music school. After a year of experimenting with a range of instruments such as; piano, guitar, violin, bass, harp etc, I came to my decision and chose drums as primary instrument. This was the beginning of a long journey, studying drums and making music.
After some years of studying and tuition, my drum teacher asked me if I wanted to play in a band (Ascension) at the music school. I was around ten/eleven years old at the time. This was my first real band, the first band that I played real live gigs. Before this, I had only played with my dad, and some friends.
After a few years I started my own band (Starfish). A band with a wide variety of musical styles; rock, hard rock, jazz and blues. This was also the first band I ever recorded with. After eight years studying and taking lessons from a lot of professional and famous drummer’s i.e; Gian Prince, Cesar Zuiderwijk, Ton Dijkman, I finished my exams at the Rock academy in Tilburg. After this time I was approached by bands from all over Europe to play for them live and in studio sessions. I jumped at this oppurtunity and recorded demo’s and debut albums, through my life, even up to the present day.
At the age of twenty I met with other musicians who wanted to start a band, "First Date". The bands members included, Jo Douven (guitarist/singer song writer). We wrote a few songs and recorded our demo album "Desire" at a local studio. Our bass player, Rens Tellers from "First Date" later asked me to join a new band. He had written some songs with a good friend Guido Jonk, and I joined the band, The Majestic’s. After a year of writing and making music together we met a singer, Niels Lousberg. After that we changed the band name to XenoluX. We went to Luxembourg for some weeks with the band to compose new material. This was great experience for us all.
2004/2005 was the year of Six Degrees, a Dream Theater tribute band. We played live in different countries in Europe and recorded one album, one in the studio and one live album "A Tribute To". This was also the year that I met a lot of professional drummers, such as: Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez, John Blackwell (Prince), Marco Minnerman, Thomas Lang, Simon Phillips (Toto), Omar Hakim, Gregg Bissonette, Terry Bozzio, Luis Conte (Phill Collins), Kenny Arnoff, Chester Thomson(Phill Collins), Mike Magini (Steve Via), and Billy Cobham.
In April 2005 I joined a new band, Nem-Q, a progressive rock band with inspirations from great artists such as Dream-Theater, Tool, Pain of Salvation.
LiQuid World Project, is my newly created project. I asked some friends and musicians to play and compose songs in a variety of musical styles. I hope to finish my new album "Havana Lounge" by the end of 2006.
Paul recorded the Debut album with Nem-Q. An eighth track album. “This is one of the fabulous albums I recorded with a new up coming band”. The album will came out in May 2007.
In january 2007 Hossino & D'Addario give me a chance to play and present me some Evans Drumheads. After a wille playing on Evans Drumheads, I was excited about the quality, sound and durability of the heads. I took this big chance and accepted their offer. In may that year I was asked to try the new Adams 8000 drumkit. I was wondering about the new product of Adams. It's a full 6 mm maple shell and it sounds unexpectedly Good. After this "try-out" i change from Pearl to Adams. I Use the new Adams 8000 drums on stage and in studio. These drums make relaxer and are easily to handle on stage and in studio. In that same month I released the new progressive album "opportunities of tomorrow" with Nem-Q.
In June 2007 Adams offer me work at Drumworld. Drumworld is the biggest drumstore in Europe and i think it's the biggest in the world! it's a must to work there for a drummer.
Recently I started a new project under the name "Liquid World Project". This time a Rock project. I asked some great musicians (Jord Knapen - Guitar & vocals, Erwin Jaspers - Bass guitar and Eugené Verboeket - Lead vocals and Guitar) to formed a new band. We worked hard together and we will play live on stage at the end of 2007.
