Justin Porée (1976, Los Angeles) is probably best known as percussionist in Ozomatli, also featuring drummer Mario Calire and percussionist Jiro Yamaguchi. Poree:

"I joined Ozomatli about two or three months after its beginning. The drummer at the time, Anton Morales, was having a get together and Wil-Dog and I were both at the party. Dog was looking for someone to play congas... I thought Wil was nuts, but when I went to my first rehearsal I started to understand his vision and started feeling the vibe more and more. And I was heavily diggin' Jiro's tabla playing."

Before Ozomatli Justin Porée was working at Disneyland in the Lion King parade. His first gig was with Jazz Etc. featuring his brother in 1992.



Porée names his father as a musical influence, but also artists like Manequitos de Matanzas, Bernard Purdie, Art Blakey, Cojunto Clavey, Guaguanco, Yocuba Janava, John Coltraine, Bill Summers, Angel Figueroa, Vinx, Nenge, Joey Deledon, Karl Perrazo, Raul Rekow and Giovanni Aidalgo.
