Justin Shane Collins was born on September 21, 1974 in Mt. Airy, North Carolina, where he has resided since that day. Justin Collins was born into a musical home, being his father, Jim Collins, was heavily involved in music, from playing bass/guitar in a country music act, to even operating a music studio inside the home.



Justin began playing drums at the age of 16, when he decided to use his brother, Joel's drumset when he wasn't around. Justin grew a fond love for the drums, in that he found them as an inspiration, and just a really fun hobby.



When Justin was 17 he began to play in a local garage punk band called BTNX. The band played high school dances, and a few birthday parties, and eventually came to a hault, when all three members faced high school graduation. Justin soon began to drum for the band, Tragic Seasons, during his college days, which lasted for 2 solid years.



Justin left Tragic Season's to form his own band, Social Phobia, which was born in the fall of 1995. He stayed highly active through the next 4 years of his life, from playing shows, writing music, as well as, just simply learning the drums more and more. Justin, along with his brother, and couple local friends, started a band called Waiting For Wednesday, which now is defunct.



Justin formed Bloodjinn in 1999, along with his brother, Joel. He has continued writing and playing many shows with Bloodjinn, which has become a huge part of his life. Justin also plays in the band Self Portrait, along with his brother Joel, and Bloodjinn member's BJ Stevens, & Anthony Sanders.



Justin's main influences include Neil Peart, Virgil Donati, Ringo Starr, John Bonham, Dave Weckel, & Bill Ward.. He is also inspired by bands like Rush, Sigur Ros, Led Zepplin, early thrash metal, New Orleans Jazz, and early rockabilly, such as Elvis & Roy Orbison, as well as, various metal and hardcore acts.



Justin can be found teaching drum lessons at Mountain Breeze Music Store and Resturant in Mount Airy, NC during the week and on weekends that Bloodjinn is home.



Justin Collins drummed in Bloodjinn until February 2004, when he decided to leave the band. In his official statement the drummer writes:

"This is the hardest decision I have ever had to make in my life, but walking away from Bloodjinn is just something I have to do at this time. I am approaching my 30th birthday and my body and mind cannot handle touring anymore and I do not want to hold Bloodjinn back from fulfilling the goals the band has set. I've gone back to school to get my teaching degree as well. I'm also getting married to my beautiful fiancee Meghan in August and it is just time for me to embrace my new life."

February 28th 2004 was Justin's last show with Bloodjinn.
