Joey Castillo started off his drumming career by joining the Los Angeles punk band, Wasted Youth, in 1984. After recording two albums and several tours, he left Wasted Youth and joined Sugartooth in 1991.
During the summer of '94, he formed a short-lived punk rock band called Chronic Halitosis with future Danzig members Josh Lazie and Todd Youth. After also recording with W.C. And Mad Circle, Joey officially left Sugartooth and joined Danzig.
In 1996, Joey was featured on Robert Trujillo's solo album, and in 1997 he also appeared on an album by Hide. In 1999, he also did 4 shows as drummer for the Japanese band Zilch.
More recently Joey Castillo succesfully played in Queens of The Stone Age, until he decided to part from the band early 2004. Barret Martin, known as the skinsman for the Screaming Trees, replaced Castillo in the Queens.
Joey Castillo also played on Mark Lanegan's solo album Bubblegum and Eagles of Death Metal's second album Death by Sexy.
Factoid: Castillo has two drumkits which belonged to Chuck Biscuits (Danzig, Black Flag, D.O.A. Circle Jerks, Social Distortion) and considers them his most prized possessions.
