Jim Wunderlich was born in Washington D.C. in 1970. He was surrounded by music at birth; his father was a French Horn player in the Washington National Symphony Orchestra. This surely must have etched music, especially his father's love for all things classical, into his subconscious.
Jim's musical training started with a brief stint of piano lessons at a young age. Years later, he began playing drum set in junior high school. When he entered high school, he became enthralled with playing marching percussion. He learned from several instructors, including Matt Savage and Michael Ellerby. After high school, Jim felt the desire to teach & arrange music for the activity that he loved so much. At that point his instructing career began with the full support of his loving mother, Rejeanne.
Jim Wunderlich has been the front ensemble arranger & instructor for the five-time WGI Medalist Mission Viejo High School (Mission Viejo, CA) for the past 15 years, and the four-time WGI Medalist Loara High School (Anaheim, CA) for the past 10 years. He has also been the Front Ensemble Director at the WGI Independent World Class Gold Medalist Riverside Community College for the past 2 years.
Jim Wunderlich marched in 1989 with the Suncoast Sound Drum & Bugle Corps. He provided instruction for the Velvet Knights in 1996 as well as arrangements & instruction for the Seattle Cascades in 2003. He currently arranges for the brass & front ensemble at the Esperanza Drum & Bugle Corps in San Diego, CA.
Other credits include band arrangements for the two-time WBA Champion Mission Viejo High School where he currently serves at Program Coordinator. Jim has also provided wind arrangements for numerous other programs in Southern California and the surrounding areas.
Jim Wunderlich has been serving on the WGI Percussion Advisory Board since 1997, and currently holds the position of Treasurer for the Southern California Percussion Alliance.
