Southwest Calgary-based Jaxon Smith, born in 2005, was an adorable six six-year-old drumming child prodigy when he became a YouTube hit with his rendition of the Foo Fighters song Pretender.
Completely self-taught, Jaxon started drumming around the age of one. Born three months premature, Jaxon weighed just over one pound at birth and spent more than three months in hospital.
As a result, Jaxon has severe ADHD and drumming is proving to be a positive outlet.
when Jaxon was three, his father Kevin Smith bought him a drum set to practise on. Says Jaxon's dad: "For two or three months he was kind of sloppy on it but he literally taught himself by watching music DVDs of bands like Rush, Muse, Pearl Jam and the Foo Fighters."
