Percussionist Jarrengton De León was born in New York City and later moved to the Dominican Republic where as a young student he immersed himself in the world of Afro-Caribbean percussion through Cuban and Dominican artists such as Tata Güines, Hipólito Ortiz and Odelkis Revés.
In 1998 Jarrengton De León began his studies at the Conservatorio Nacional de Musica Santo Domingo (Santo Domingo’s National Music Conservatory) where he played actively in a wide variety of ensembles which resulted in his becoming a very versatile player. While at the Conservatory, Jarrengton formed his own group Parada Joven and with this group he won important awards and gain national recognition due to the band’s popularity in the country.
Jarrengton De León's vast knowledge of not only Afro-Caribbean percussion instruments but also of their specific styles has made him one of the most sought after percussionist in the Dominican Republic. In his career he has played with national and international artists such as
Paloma San Basilio, Armando Manzanero, Marcos Antonio Muñiz, Gypsy Kings, Willy Chirino, Andy Montañez, Tito Rojas, José Alberto Canario, Grupo Los Satélites, Cheo Feliciano, Ismael Miranda, Paquito Guzmán, Jerry Rivera, Rey Ruiz, Ruby Pérez, Fernando Echavarría’s Familia André , Los Hermanos Rosario, Milly Quezada, Johnny Ventura, Michel “El Buenon”, Ania Paz Jazz Ensemble, Josean Jacobo y Tumbao and Héctor Acosta “El Torito".
Jarrengton De León is currently one of the most recorded percussionists in the Dominican Republic and he is a first call artist for shows and tours with national and international artists in and out of the Dominican Republic.
