Ion Tanase is percussionist in Taraf de Ha´douks (also known as Taraful Haiducilor), a group of Romanian Roma musicians.
Ion Tanase plays cymbalum (also spelled as cymbalom or cimbalom, or refered to as ţambal, tsymbaly, tsimbl or santouri. This musical instrument is found mainly in the music of Hungary, Romania, Moldova, Greece and Ukraine. In Czechoslovakia it is also known as a Cimbal. It is related to the hammered dulcimer of Western Europe.
