Gergory Kozak is co-founder, composer and invented instrument creator (and Artistic Director!) in Canadian act Scrap Arts Music. The percussion theatre act also features Scott Bishop, Sarka Kocicka, Malcolm Shoolbraid and Simon Thomsen.



Kozak created several other theatrical percussion shows, including “The Ant’s Dream” and “S.w.a.r.m.”



In 1998 Kozak released a CD of music for other invented instruments entitled "Fabrication Laboratory".



Scrap Arts Music debut album, called "Phon", was officially launched in Canada in 2002. It's an enhanced CD with 9 tracks of music plus a quick-time movie of one of the pieces on the CD (Plasmatron).



Gregory Kozak is responsible for arranging and choreographing the repertoire of Scrap Arts Music. A seasoned percussionist and the ensemble's principal soloist, Kozak is trained in jazz improvisation and world music traditions. After months of research and development, he designed and created the sculptural instruments to the specification of the sounds he was searching for in Scrap Arts Music.



In his composition, Kozak brings together world and pop music sensibilities with 21st century sounds resulting in sophisticated yet accessible music that can be enjoyed by audiences of all persuasions. The group performs at art, jazz and folk festivals, and they've been invited to perform with symphony orchestras. On mondaymag.com Kozak recalls :

"I’ve been making instruments since I was young. I used to gather old hubcaps and place them under eavestroughing when it rained for the sound."
