Fernando Arias is a Spanish drummer and synphonic percussionist. He is playing with Oviedo Filarmonia, and Eye In The Sky Proyecto among others.
Biography:
Fernando Arias studied percussion at the Conservatory of Oviedo and Paris. He was a member of the European Youth Orchestra for two years and studied with Peter Prommel, Emmanuel Séjourrnè, Mitchell Peters, Robert Van Sice, Jan Pustjens, etc...
Fernando Arias also attended classes with Rafael Casanova, Patrik Mendez, Julien Curfs Burgeoise and Raymond, among others.
At sixteen years old Fernando Arias began working regularly with the Symphony Orchestra of the Principality of Asturias and Galicia Symphony Orchestra. He has also worked with most Spanish symphony orchestras and even some international ones including the Monte Carlo Philharmonic, the Orchestre National de Lille and the Moscow Virtuosi.
Fernando Arias was a member of the percussion group of Asturias with Rafael Casanova, Francisco Revert and Jeffery Prentice.
Fernando Arias has been a teacher for over seven years at the Conservatory of Music in Oviedo. He has received numerous invitations to teach courses or master classes around the country, highlighting the International Conference on Riba-Roja Percussion Turia (Valencia).
In the summer of 2008 he was an invited professor at the International Percussion Festival "Angel Frette" in Argentina, along with other teachers including Keiko Abe, Emmanuel Séjourné, and Jim Jacobson.
Fernando Arias teaches regularly at the Magistralia Foundation, International Youth Orchestra of the City of Oviedo, and Youth Orchestra of Madrid. He has written several works for percussion ensemble, several of them being released with the Percussion Group of Asturias and the group RHYTHM.
Fernando Arias has been invited by the Youth Institute at various jazz festivals most notably the Getxo Jazz Festival, Festival de Jazz de Madrid or Ibiza Jazz Show.
He has worked as a drummer or percussionist in a large number of recordings and studio shared with artists like Victor Manuel, Jose Antonio Ramos, Pedro Guerra, Ana Belen, Kepa Junquera, Andreas Prittwitz, and Béla Fleck.
Fernando Arias is currently the principal percussionist of the Philharmonia Oviedo and member of PULSE percussion duo duet. Right now is preparing his first cd for the label Philartis Vienna, which will include two concerts for percussion and orchestra and two works alone.
