New Plymouth student and percussionist Daniel Thipps was 17 years old when he became the highest grade eight musician playing any instrument in New Zealand.



Daniel Thipps scored the highest marks in the country during the exams, which covered such skills as note accuracy, improvisation and sense of timing.



Daniel Thipps says he has an eclectic taste in music ranging from progressive metal to early jazz.
