Sophomore at Duquesne University, majoring in guitar at the Mary Pappert School of Music and studying with Mellon Jazz Community Awardee Joe Negri.
Background:
A jazz drummer and guitarist, Chris Parker has studied percussion under a number of local jazz masters and percussionists from the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra; active in several jazz and classical ensembles at Duquesne; performs with the Pittsburgh Jazz Society Big Band. He has been the drummer for the Duquesne University Jazz Ensemble since his senior year in high school.
Noteworthy:
In september 2005 Chris Parker was recipient of the inaugural Pittsburgh Jazz Society/Mellon Jazz Scholarship, a $5,000 tuition award presented by the Pittsburgh Jazz Society and Mellon Jazz to support jazz education in the Pittsburgh area. Commented Chris Parker:
"It's a great honor. It was a personal goal of mine to get it. It really was meaningful because I was picked by some jazz greats."
