Bobby Irwin (also known as Robert Treherne and Robert Trehern), has worked with a rich assortment of artists, including Roogalator (alongside bassist Paul Riley ), Lene Lovich, Van Morrison, The Vibrators, Paul Carrack, Dave Edmunds, John Hiatt, to name but a few.
Session drummer Bobby Irwin is one of the drummers/percussionists Van Morrison works with on a regular basis.
Bobby Irwin's long working relationship with Nick Lowe (since the early 70s), commencing with tracks on the 'Bowi' EP (Stiff Records) - has seen him performing and recording on various Nick Lowe albums including Nick the Knife, Cowboy Outfit and more recently, At My Age. He shares co-writing credits on Long Walk Back from the the Lowe album The Rose of England with Nick Lowe, Paul Carrack and Martin Belmont.
A founder member of the new wave, power pop band The Sinceros (1978-1981), Bobby Irwin co-wrote the song Torture Myself with the band. Such was the demand for his drumming skills he became regarded as the in-house drummer for Stiff Records. As a session drummer he is highly regarded amongst his peers and has performed on countless recordings by various artists throughout the 1980s (often uncredited).
In 1985, Bobby Irwin decamped to San Antonio, Texas, performing and recording with Carlene Carter, Ray Price, Doug Sahm, Delbert McClinton, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Billy Joe Shaver, Asleep At The Wheel, George Strait. He was also a member of the Antone's House Band in Austin, Texas.
Upon his return to England in 1992, Bobby Irwin has performed and recorded with Van Morrison, The Balham Alligators, Geraint Watkins, amongst others. He co-produced with Neil Brockbank in 2006, adding drumming duties, the album Bloom, Red & The Ordinary Girl by Tres Chicas.
