Bill Ward was born in Aston, Birmingham, England in 1958, though he's a resident of the USA nowadays. He married three times, has one girl and two boys as children. And best of all: Bill has been rocking with Black Sabbath for many years.



Bill Ward starts playing at the age of seven. He gets more serious playing drums when he is eleven years old. Four years late, aged fifteen, Bill plays his first gigs.



In 1964 Bill meets Tony Iommi before his 16th birthday. In 1968 they meet Ozzy Osbourne. It will be the start of a legendary band: Black Sabbath. Bill's first hits: 1970 "Black Sabbath" the album, & 1970 "Paranoid".



Besides being a succesful hard rock drummer Bill is percussionist, songwriter, vocalist, producer, arranger and owner of his albums and record company.



Apart from Black Sabbath, Bill played also in other bands. The Rest, Method 5, Mythology, Polka Tulk Blues Band, Earth (1963 to 68), Max Havoc (1981), England's Glory (1985), and his own Bill Ward Band (1986 - current).



Jim Capaldi, probably best known for his creative work with Traffic, was an inspiration to Bill Ward. The Black Sabbath drummer stated after Capaldi had deceased: "As a teenager, I would sit next to the stage at Birmingham's all nighters and study Jim's technique. At that time, Jim played with a Worcestershire-based band called Deep Feeling, which also included Luther Grosvenor, later of Spooky Tooth, and Chris Wood, later of Traffic. Jim was a unique player, and back then at the all nighters he had a heart of many talents. I got to know Jim, and he gave me a most precious gift. A gift that as a teenage drummer, I probably needed more than anything else. The gift was validation. He validated my playing. At that time, this meant a lot to me."
