Barney 'Kam' Lee started to play as a drummer in Mantas in 1983, the band that one year later would change their name into Death and eventuallty beacame a metal icon. Kam Lee was Death's original drummer until he left in 1985 to form the band Massacre in Florida.
Mantas/Death singer/guitarist Chuck Schuldiner moved to San Francisco and joined forces with ex-DRI drummer Eric Brecht. At the end of the year 1985 Chuck returned bandless to Florida.
A couple of months later Chuck Schuldiner hooked up with drummer Chris Reifert, with whom he got along very well.
