Already as a very young artist he showed his talent, with numerous solo performances with the best orchestras of Bulgaria, such as the Orchestra of the Bulgarian National Broadcasting Company. In the course of his studies at the State Music Academy of Sofia, where he completed his Master's degree with highest honors under the direction of Prof. T. Karparova, he was able to demonstrate his exceptional musicality with first prizes at competitions such as the Provadija in 1994, Musik und Erde in 1995 and 1997, and the Open Society Competition Sofia. His insatiable interest in the area of percussion music has pushed him to participate in numerous master classes (L.H. Stevens, S. Fink, K. Abe, among others) and finally led him to the Mozarteum University Salzburg with Prof. Peter Sadlo.
Whether as a solo drummer of the Philharmonie der Nationen, as a teacher of chamber music at the State Music Academy of Sofia, as a jury member, as a chamber musician or as a soloist, Alexander Kamenarov's flair for different musical styles, his sensitivity for issues of sound, expression and interpretation, dealing with original material as well as adaptations for percussion ensemble, his inexhaustible abundance of ideas, and his knowledge of percussion instruments make him one of the most versed percussion artists of the day.
Alexander Kamenarov is a founding member of the Via Nova Percussion Group, with whom he won first prize at the International Percussion Competition Luxemburg in 2005.
