Alex Wier is entering his senior year at the University of Arizona, pursuing an undergraduate degree in Percussion Performance. Having performed in numerous honor festivals throughout high school, Alex currently performs with a wide variety of ensembles at the University of Arizona and has studied privately with Professor Gary Cook, Dr. Norman Weinberg and Dr. Michael Vercelli.
In 2006, Alex Wier spent three weeks in Ghana studying music at the Dagara Music Center. He is currently continuing his world music studies at UA alongside his classical percussion training.
Alex Wier is the recipient of several grants and awards at the university level and attended the Leigh Howard Stevens Marimba Seminar in 2007 and the Oberlin Percussion Institute in 2006.
In 2008 Alex Wier won the PAS Armand ZIldjian Scolarschip.
