Artist biography Manuel Xavier "Mannequin" De Sade
Mannequin De Sade was born as Manuel Xavier De Sade on the 16th of February 1971 in Saint Nazaire, France, as the second child of Monique De Sade. He and his elder brother, bassist Jean-Pierre Phillipe, was sent away to a catholic school to learn their manners after being caught torturing the girl next door with their pants down and willow branches used as whips in their hands. Soon they escaped from the strict and joy-killing school with a traveling circus who happened to pass through the little sleeping village, never to return to school again, except maybe for a few classes in the old school shock-rock genre then.
Mannequin played in various local metal acts and earned a reputation as the craziest skin-beater since Keith Moon and France's answer to Pete Sandoval and Dave Lombardo, but drinking pigs blood on stage in order to get attention never got him very far, more likely on the contrary, he got kicked out from the bands and failed at an audition with an American supergroup for showing up in ladies underwear only... Oops! Don't you Slayers like girls?
He ended up in Notre Dame, the band led by drummer Snowy Shaw (King Diamond, Mercyful Fate, Memento Mori, Illwill and Dream Evil) who decided to switch to lead vocals.
