Bill Maddox is best known as drummer for the Eric Johnson Group and Johnson’s bands Electromagnets and Alien Love Child.
Bill Maddox, a native of Abilene, formed the jazz-rock band the Electromagnets with childhood friend and keyboard player Stephen Barber in Austin in 1973. The next year, guitar whiz Johnson was added to the group. Bill Maddox also played in the Eric Johnson Group, Alien Love Child and Omar and the Howlers.
During the mid-1970s Bill fronted had a group called Project Terror which featured Bill not on drums but on guitar and lead vocals.
Bill Maddox replaced Chris Layton in the band Grady in 2006, but he had to drop out a year later because of a heart condition.
Bill built a home recording studio and had just finished a solo project when he died during a reported burglary at his house by a paranoid schizophrenic neighbor off his medicine who believed that he was trying to get into his safe house. Bill Maddox passed away on Monday, December 27, 2010.
