For the second episode of Liner Note Legends, Steve Gadd talks about his drumming career from his early days as a child prodigy selected to play on The Mickey Mouse Club in Hollywood, to his days playing clubs in Rochester breaking into the studio scene in New York City, and his thoughts on longevity and maintaining strong musical relationships.
Having played on literally thousands of sessions, Steve has recorded or performed with a wide range of musicians from all styles: Charles Mingus, Paul Simon, Jim Hall, James Brown, Chet Baker, Paul McCartney, Frank Sinatra, Chick Corea, Steely Dan, Kate Bush, Eric Clapton, James Taylor, The Brecker Brothers, Ringo Starr, Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin, Quincy Jones, Dr. John, Joe Cocker, Ashford & Simpson, Bonnie Raitt, and many, many more.
Special consideration is given to Paul Simon's "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" and Steely Dan's "Aja", as well as to the highly successful and influential (mostly) instrumental band Stuff. Recorded in New York while Steve was on tour with James Taylor.
