Mapex launched four new snare drums in the new Black Panther Design Lab. Based on the new Concept Hybrid design, these drums snares are engineered on sound design, shell composition and drum construction. The Design Lab snares all have unique characteristics that are explained below. There are four new snare drums: The Equinox, the Heartbreaker and the 14" and 13" Cherry Bomb snares. Drum legend Russ Miller explains in detail what the Design Lab exactly are, and demos them. In the second video he plays the four snare drums in a musical setting.
Mapex designs the Concept Hybrid drums based on many factors that influence the sound of drums. Factors like different tone woods, bearing edge profiles, counterhoop styles, lug casings, snare wires, drumheads and shell finishes are all relevant to how a drum sounds. Working with these variables, the drum company can manufacture many sound concepts snare drums - and complete drum sets - that are all unique and can match any musical or recording setting that you may encounter.
