Mike Portnoy debuts with new band Drummer starts another band with Steve Morse Acclaimed drummer Mike Portnoy, former sticksman with Dream Theater and Avenged Sevenfold, has announced a new band called Flying Colors. The news of Mike's latest group follows Mike's recent band Adrenaline Mob, and his collaboration with guitarist John Sykes.

Mike Portnoy's latest band, Flying Colors, also features Deep Purple guitarist Steve Morse, Dixie Dregs bassist Dave LaRue, Spock's Beard guitarist Neal Morse (who plays keyboards in Flying Colors), and Alpha Rev keyboardist Casey McPherson on vocals.

Apparently the band threw together their self-titled album in early 2011, writing and recording the material in a mere eleven days. Mike says:
"This album has bits and pieces of what you'd expect from each of us. The sum of all its parts led to brand new, uncharted territory for everyone involved."

Flying Colors' debut album is scheduled for a March 27 release in the United States.
