Top artists at PASIC 2009 in Indianapolis 150 events at international percussion convention Top artists at Percussive Arts Societys International Convention (PASIC) 2009 Many of the world’s top drummers and percussionists will appear at the Percussive Arts Society’s International Convention (PASIC) being held in Indianapolis, IN, November 11-14, 2009. The lineup will include more than 150 events on twelve stages featuring many of the world's best musicians on drumset, orchestral percussion, world percussion, marching and more.

Confirmed drumset artists include Sergio Bellotti, Virgil Donati, Steve Fidyk, Benny Greb, Skip Hadden, Akira Jimbo, Maria Martinez, Jason McGerr, Felix Pollard, Tobias Ralph, Joel Stevenett, Zoro and Daniel Glass.

Concerts
Drumming icon Tommy Igoe along with New York’s Birdland Big Band (with Rolando Morales-Matos as guest percussion virtuoso) will be the featured performers for a PASIC’s Saturday night concert and closing ceremonies. Igoe’s 'Groove Essentials' dvds and books have become worldwide best-sellers and his performance is sure to be a highlight of the convention.

Other concerts include performances by Curt Bisquera, Dick Sisto End of Time Quartet, Ju Percussion Group, PercaDu, Amores Grup de Percussió, I Ketut Gede Asnawa and The University of Illinois Balinese Gamelan, The Fujii Trio, and Eric Sammut.

PAS Solo Competition
As part of the annual Percussive Arts Society Solo Competition, four finalists will compete at the upcoming concention. The contest awards a total of $5,000 in cash for finalists that include matching grants to their respective percussion programs. The following finalists will compete at PASIC 2009:

  • Stephen Klunk; Toledo, OH
  • Garrett Mendelow; Ann Arbor, MI

PASIC Marching Percussion Festival
The nationally recognized PASIC Marching Percussion Festival also takes place during the convention. This indoor festival features a competition of high school and collegiate drumlines and solo performers vying for top honors.

Expert panel discussion
A group of leading educators who are also administrators and advisors in Hudson Music’s Teacher Integration Program (TIP) will participate in a special panel discussion on "The Use of New Media/Technology in Drum Set Teaching and Practice". The discussion will be moderated by PAS drumset committee chairman, Mike Sekelsky, and include Tommy Igoe, Dom Famularo, Donny Gruendler, John Favicchia, Joe Bergamini and Mike Sorrentino.

The experts will discuss their use of dvd, internet, computers, recording, and other modern technologies, to assist teachers and students in the drum set teaching/practice studio.
