Drummer speaks up about being fired by A7X Arin Ilejay: "I was shocked and scared" Ex-Avenged Sevenfold (A7X) drummer Arin Ilejay, currently drumming for Islander, says that he was "totally shocked and scared" after he got fired by the band in 2014.

Even though he had been out of the band for a year, Arin's exit from Avenged Sevenfold was only announced in July 2015. He has since been replaced by Brooks Wackerman, who previously played with Bad Religion.

In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine Arin Ilejay recalls:
"I was totally shocked and scared out of my mind when [A7X guitarist] Synyster Gates called me to let me go. I was like, 'Oh my God! My wife is about to have a baby. How am I going to support my family now?"

The drummer soon after moved on to Islander, who sacked their original drummer Eric Frazier for not practicing enough and exhibiting a "lack of professionalism" on the road. The band quickly reached out to Arin after learning of his departure from Avenged Sevenfold.

Islander's upcoming album, 'Power Under Control' is the group’s first with Arin Ilejay on drums. It will be released on August 5, 2016.

Arin was the second drummer to sit behind the kit for A7X since the death of founding member Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan in December 2009.

Mike Portnoy, formerly of Dream Theater and Jimmy's favourite drummer, recorded A7X's 2010 album 'Nightmare' and toured for several months with the band, but was out by early 2011.
