Tatiana Koleva founded the Youth Percussion Pool in 2009. The group is made by young professional students, that are specially selected for their musicality, stage presents and before all, capable of making an attractive breathtaking spectacle involving composed music, improvisations, theatre elements, a lot of humor. In their shows the YPP performs often on unusual instruments such as cacti, tables, plastic bags, and yet the complete arsenal of percussion instruments. This all often strongly influenced by folk and traditional music of Asia, Bulgaria, and Latin America. In 2012 the YPP was part of the world premiere of the Double Concerto by Emmanuel Séjourné with the Sofia Soloists Chamber Orchestra & soloists T. Koleva and E. Séjourné. Later in the year the First Edition of the Percussion Invasion, Groningen took place and marked the beginning of a new annual initiative.

The Youth Percussion Pool is a unique international educational and performance event that serves as a platform and place to meet other musicians, exchange ideas and together to create exciting new programs. It is created in 2009 by the marimba / percussion artist Tatiana Koleva internationally renown as solo and ensemble performer, educator and program maker.

The Pool operates in collaboration with leading music festivals and organizations, and its live-show performances are created together with young talented performers, students in major schools and Conservatories of Europe. It is an open form of musical interaction of young professionals “on stage” with renowned percussionists and performers, all coming from different countries.

From the very first concert the enthusiastic reactions of audience and press immediately made clear the impact and promising success of this new formation.

The performances of the Youth Percussion Pool include a large variety of percussion instruments and are presented theatrically with humor and virtuosity; the programs combine in unique way the traditional instruments of Asia, Africa, Bulgaria, and Mexico with the newest forms and compositions. Next to that the music is strongly influenced by pop, jazz and folk music, using improvisations and soundscapes. Anything is music: sounds & rhythms can come from tables, cactuses and branches, tea cups and frying pans, news papers and cow bells. The result is a spectacular performance event, with magical atmosphere and intoxicating spirit that leaves the audience spellbound and dazzled.
