United States
Solo Artist
Paul Gilbert was born in Carvendine, Illinois, on November 6, 1966. The great guitar virtuoso studied guitar at G.I.T. (Guitar Institute of Technology) in L.A., where he won the "Outstanding student of the year" mention, and he also won the "L.A. Guitar Wars".

He co-formed the band Racer X in 1985. As Paul was the most famous name in the band, their first album, Street lethal, is credited to "Racer X with Paul Gilbert". The release features Harry Gschoesser on drums. Soon after this album, in 1986, Gschoesser was replaced by Scott Travis.

In June 1988 Paul Gilbert left the band to form his own outfit Mr. Big, featuring Pat Torpey on drums.

Racer X continued along several line-ups until their final split in April 1990.

After several albums, and without an official declaration of separation, the members of the band started doing their own things. Paul Gilbert resumed his solo career. Mr. Big reunited in 1999, but without Gilbert this time.

Gilbert also released several instructional videos, the first being "Intense rock" in 1988.
