Ahmir Khalib Thompson (born January 20, 1971), known professionally as ?uestlove or Questlove (also known as Questo, BROther ?uestion, Brother Question or Qlove), is a drummer, multi-instrumentalist, DJ, music journalist, and record producer.
Ahmir '?uestlove' Thompson is the drummer, primary spokesperson and driving force behind revolutionary Hip-hop/Rap band The Roots. Committed to using only real instruments in their music and to combining jazz with experimental and other contemporary grooves, ?uestlove
and his band have changed the face of modern Hip-hop.
Armed with the most minimal of kits and the fiercest groove you've heard in awhile, this guy is really doing something fresh and different. He says:
"With each album, the challenge is to make live instruments sound like real (sampled) Hip-hop, through the recording process. That's the joy in recording"
Check him out on the Roots' CD, "Do you want more?!!!??!, a startling tutorial in how to strip a groove down to its most vital and core elements. An equally accomplished writer and producer, ?uestlove Thompson is without question one of the most important new voices in modern drumset playing.
In 2003 Ahmir played with Cindy Blackman on "The Soul Sessions" - Joss Stone's debut. The album was completed in only four days. The Soul Sessions is a collection of classics and little-known soul gems alongside some contemporary tracks re-interpreted by Joss and her titanic band of accomplices.
