Tomas Haake plays in Swedish metal band Meshuggah. He joined on drums in 1990, replacing Niklas Lundgren. With Haake the band recorded their first official album, "Contradictions Collapse," which was released in 1991. Meshuggah's music is featured by progressive elements, many time-changes and complex polyrhythmics.
Haake studied woodworking before the band gained a following and decided to build his own snare drum in a stave-type of configuration that is very thick. It's supposed to have a nice woody "crack" to it and is very loud. Haake's snare drum looks like a marching snare, with a lot of lugs on it.
